Hyderabad: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin lauded the Union Home Ministry's go-ahead to conduct Constable (General Duty) examination for Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) in 13 regional languages. The Ministry of Home Affairs approved the conduct of the CAPF examination in 13 other languages in addition to Hindi and English from January 1, 2024.
Taking to Twitter, the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister welcomed the move saying that his letter to the Union Home Minister Amit Shah earlier in the month had prompted this decision. "As a result of my letter to Hon @AmitShah, the Union Govt has announced that it would conduct the CAPF exams in all state languages. I wholeheartedly welcome this decision and reiterate our demand to provide Question Papers in Tamil and other state languages in all Union Govt exams," he wrote.

Earlier in April, Stalin had tweeted that the decision by the central paramilitary force to conduct its test in Hindi and in English amounts to discrimination and denies equal opportunity for all non-Hindi speaking states. "The notification by @crpfindia to conduct its CBT only in English and Hindi amounts to blatant discrimination & denies equality of opportunity to non-Hindi speaking states. I urge Hon @AmitShah to immediately revise the notification to include Tamil and other state languages."
In a letter written to the Home Minister, Stalin reminded Shah that Tamil is one of the languages in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution. Hence conducting the computerised test for recruitment only in Hindi and English would prove detrimental for those students who have studied from regional background.
Stalin had stated that out of a total vacancy of 9,212 seats, 579 have to be filled from Tamil Nadu. The exam is also going to be scheduled in 12 centres in Tamil Nadu and hence a sizable number of the applicants would be Tamils. Moreover, Hindi language test will comprise 25 marks out of a total of 100.
