Erode: A 22-year old man from Bihar was hacked to death here allegedly by three people, including a couple, after they didn't get the ransom they had demanded from his mother, police said on Wednesday.

Bihar resident Navin Kumar Patel (23) and his wife Sasikala (22) were residing here for the past six months and used to work in a dyeing factory in Erode.

They befriended Nitish Kumar (22) from Dindigul while they were returning to Erode from the northern state, the police said and added that Patel promised Nitish a good job in a water packaging unit.

Believing this, the latter came to Erode few days back and did not return to Dindigul. His mother complained to the Dindigul police stating that she had not heard from her son since he left for Erode to meet Patel.

Acting on the complaint, police reached Erode on Tuesday and with the help of cyber crime police tracked his mobile phone and went to Patel's house where they found some blood stains.

The Dindigul police then informed their Erode counterparts who inquired Sasikala and Rahul Datta, an associate of Patel.

During interrogation, Sasikala and Datta admitted to having demanded a ransom of ₹1 lakh from Nitish's mother, the police said. Later, they hacked him and chopped his body into pieces. They kept the remains in a gunny bag in their house, the police said.

Datta and Sasikala had been arrested, while Patel was at large, police said and added that a search was on to nab him.
