Chennai (Tamil Nadu): Kannan, a lawyer in Madurai moved a plea seeking a ban on Sanskrit news bulletin broadcast at Podhigai DD, at the Madurai bench of the Madras High Court.

"It was ordered that all televisions running under Prasar Bharati including Podhigai DD, should air 15 minutes daily Sanskrit bulletin and 15 minutes weekly newscast on Saturdays. It is no way fair to impose Sanskrit on televisions such as Podhigai DD which broadcast exclusively for Tamil," lawyer Kannan argued.

Madurai bench of Madras High Court has said that if a petition is filed in this regard, it will be taken up for hearing. Earlier In this regard, DMK Chief M.K. Stalin, CPI, left parties and Madurai MP Su. Venkatesan issued statements condemning this decision of Union Ministry of I&B.
