No one to look after daughter, Tiruppur sweeper carries her in dustbin

The daughter of a sweeper employed with the Tiruppur Corporation was seen sitting inside a dustbin, as her mother could not find anyone to take care of her while she worked. After the pictures went viral on social media, the collector assured creche facilities to workers with young children.

Tiruppur (Tamil Nadu): The Tiruppur district collector assured crèche facilities for workers after pictures of a sweeper's child sitting in a dustbin went viral on social media.

Sujatha, who works as a sweeper with the Tiruppur Corporation hails from Maharashtra and does not speak Tamil. As she had no one to look after her daughter, she reportedly took her along when he went to work.

The child was sitting inside one of the dustbins provided to Sujatha, pictures and a video of which went viral on social media.

In the video, the child is seen sitting inside a dustbin as her mother pushes the cart.

District Collector K Vijayakarthikeyan then assured that crèche facilities will be made available for such workers with children.

Further, concerns were also raised about the safety of the corporation worker and her daughter, as both of them were seen without gloves face-masks.

However, sources claimed that the video and photographs which went viral on social media, must have been taken after work hours.

There is no shortage of gloves and other protective equipment for sweepers working amid the pandemic, sources claimed, adding that Sujatha might have removed her gloves and jacket after her work hours.

Such workers, who work between 6 am and 2 pm, are provided with masks, gloves, and protective jackets as part of precautionary measures, sources added.
