NIA raids across TN, Kerala, Karnataka in Coimbatore car bomb probe

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is conducting searches at over 60 locations of the premises of those suspected of supporting the ISIS terrorist organisation. In 2022 Coimbatore car bomb case, a 29 year old engineering graduate was charred to death after the car laden with explosives blasted in front of Kottai Eeswaran Temple.

Chennai (Tamil Nadu): The NIA has launched raids at over 60 locations in Chennai city and several districts across Tamil Nadu in the Coimbatore suicide attack. The searches by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) are going on at multiple locations considering the severity of the suspected suicide bomber attack involved in the case, sources said.

As per officials sources, the NIA is conducting searches at the premises of those suspected of supporting the ISIS terrorist organisation. Also in Tamil Nadu, the raids are going on in many districts including Chennai, Coimbatore, Mayiladuthurai, Tirunelveli and Tenkasi.

The latest searches are going on based on the inputs available from a huge number of documents seized during the course of investigation in the Coimbatore car blast case. In this case, a 29 year old engineering graduate was charred to death after the car laden with explosives blasted in front of Kottai Eeswaran Temple in Coimbatore on October 23, 2022. The accused youth was found to have links with terror organisations.

The deceased in the car blast was identified as Jamesha Mubin, who was stated to have planned to carry out terror attacks on a temple and buildings. Local authorities in the districts and Chennai city are on high alert following the massive searches launched by the NIA. Further details are awaited.

Jamesha was thought to be associated with the ISIS, banned terror organization. The car blast case was initially transferred to the CBCID, Tamil Nadu Police Department, and finally to the NIA. As part of the probe, the NIA officials raided many places associated with the terror suspects and seized several important documents.

During this investigation, it was revealed that Jamesha Mubin planned lone wolf attacks. He had planned to carry out suicide attacks by buying explosives and equipment online to target and destroy places of worship and cause widespread damage. The agency has arrested 11 people including Mohammad Azharuddin, Absar Khan, Mohammad Talha, Mohammad Riaz, Peroz Ismail, Mohammad Nawaz, Iratullah, Sanobar Ali, Mohammad Tawfiq, Umar Farooq, Feroz Khan.

The NIA officials conducted an in depth investigation and took the arrested persons to various places like the scene of the incident and the place where the conspiracy was planned. Based on the documents obtained during the investigation, the NIA officials are conducting fresh searches on Wednesday in more than 60 places in the states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala. In Kerala, the NIA raided several in connection with the Coimbatore blast case and the Mangaluru autorickshaw blast. Raids started today early morning.
