Coimbatore: A man was killed and a woman was critically injured in a suspected case of honour killing in Mettupalayam area of Coimbatore on Tuesday.
Kanakaraj, 22, a coolie by profession and 18-year-old Dharshini Priya were attacked by the man's brother with a sickle. While the man died on the spot, the woman is in a critical condition and is undergoing treatment at a government hospital in Coimbatore.
Reportedly, the accused attacked the couple while they were talking on the roadside in Vellipalaiyam area.
Kanakaraj belonged to the upper caste while Darshini hailed from a lower caste. The couple was threatened by Kanakaraj's family with dire consequences a number of times.
