Chennai: Dr Chandan Bose, who is a PhD Scholar at IIT Madras has been awarded the Innovative Student Projects Award 2020, by the Indian National Academy of Engineering for his work on Dynamical Analysis of Unsteady Flow Phenomena around Flapping Wings. In this project, Dr. Bose was guided by Prof Sunetra Sarkar, Dept of AE and Prof Sayan Gupta, Dept of AM. The project was Examined by Prof. Bernd Noack, LIMSI, France and Prof. Amit Agarawal , IIT Bombay, India.
Dr. Bose is currently a post-doctoral research associate in the Fluid-Structure Interactions and Experimental Aerodynamics Laboratory, Dept. of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering, University of Liège, Belgium. He obtained his M.S. and PhD from the Dept. of Applied Mechanics, IIT Madras, India. He also worked at the Uncertainty Laboratory and the Biomimetics Laboratory in IIT.
Dr. Bose is passionately interested in fluid dynamics problems of different tastes especially with a flavour of nonlinear dynamics. His currently focuses on his research in understanding low-speed unsteady aerodynamics/hydrodynamics and nonlinear fluid-structure interaction behaviour of bio-inspired propulsion.
He also holds his Bachelor of Engineering degree in Civil Engineering from Jadavpur University. He won the “University Gold Medal” for his B.E. Project, Design of structures subjected to wind and earthquake loads.
