Ex-TN Minister Vijayabaskar's residence, business premises raided

Former AIADMK Health Minister C. Vijayabaskar's residence and other places were raided by anti-corruption bureau officials on Monday. FIR was filed against Vijayabaskar and his wife Ramya for amassing wealth amounting to Rs.27.22 crore.

Chennai: The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC ) has filed a case against Vijayabaskar and his wife Ramya on the basis of a complaint that the former AIADMK health minister had amassed too many properties.

Also, the DAVC officers have been conducting raids on his homes, offices, and relatives' houses across Tamil Nadu. Raid has started this morning. The raid is being conducted at 43 places in districts including Chennai, Chengalpattu, Kanchipuram, Coimbatore, Trichy, and Pudukottai. Now the DVAC has investigated and recorded the first information report about his properties which adds Vijayabaskar assets worth over Rs 27 crore.

In it, the DVAC said, they found that Vijayabaskar had illegally amassed assets worth crores from 2013 to 2021 during his tenure as minister. Also, he has bought a property in the name of his wife Ramya. Vijayabaskar has been a partner in some companies and also running some of the companies in the name of his family, including Zodiac Blue Metals, Green Land High Promoters, Iris Ego Power Venture, Zodiac Enterprise, and Anya Enterprise.

Particularly, during the 2016 Assembly election nomination, C. Vijayabaskar submitted to the Election Commission that he had assets worth Rs 6.41 crore . This was followed by a list of assets purchased after 2016.

During this period, Vijayabaskar and his wife were found to have earned Rs 57.77 crore from bank investments, jewelry, agricultural land, houses, and insurance. It has also been revealed that Vijayabaskar has spent Rs 34.51 crore on income tax, bank loans, and livelihood.

The value of Vijayabaskar's assets during the 2021 assembly elections has been shown to be 58 crores 64 lakh 25 thousand 887 rupees. In calculating this, the DVAC has found that Vijayabaskar has accumulated assets of 27 crores 22 lakh 56 thousand 736 rupees more than his income.

In the first information report, the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) police said that it was suspected that the money was being used to run a foundation and educational institutions under the name of Mother Teresa in the Pudukottai district.

Previously, Former AIADMK ministers M.R. Vijayabaskar, S.P. Velumani, K.C. Veeramani, and the raid was conducted. This is the fourth raid of former ministers after the DMK came to power. And also the raid was conducted in Vijayabaskar's father in law house, in Coimbatore. The house has been raided for more than two hours by the DVAC.
