Distressed by ailing husband's condition, woman, minor daughter from Andhra commit suicide in Tamil Nadu's Vadapalani

The mother daughter duo allegedly committed suicide at a lodge near a hospital where the man was undergoing treatment for brain hemorrhage.

Chennai: A woman and her 12-year-old daughter from Andhra Pradesh allegedly died by suicide on Sunday in Vadapalani Tamil Nadu, where her husband is admitted at a private hospital for treatment, officials said. The deceased woman has been identified as Venkata Sumalatha (34), who took the extreme step along with her minor daughter in Vadapalani, Chennai.

It is learnt that Sumalatha's husband Harikrishnan (42) from Ongole, Andhra Pradesh, who runs a grocery store in Ongole suffered brain hemorrhage on the 29th of last month. An official said that Harikrishnan was admitted to a private hospital (Vijaya) in Vadapalani in Tamil Nadu from Andhra Pradesh. Harikrishnan is undergoing treatment at the hospital. His brother Prasad has been attending to him at the hospital.

Meanwhile, Hari Krishnan's wife Venkata Sumalatha and her daughter from Andhra visited Harikrishnan at the Vijaya Hospital in Vadapalani, Chennai on Sunday morning May 14. It is said that after seeing no improvement in his health condition, both Venkata Sumalatha and her daughter were very distressed due to this.

Venkata Sumalatha and her daughter later went to a lodge near the hospital. After some time, Harikrishnan's brother Prasad went to the Lodge to see the mother and daughter duo, but found that the door was locked inside the room where they were staying at that time. On becoming suspicious as the door was not opened for a long time, Prasad broke the door with the help of the Lodge staff and went inside to see both Venkata Sumalatha and her daughter dead.

On notice, a team of police from the the KK Nagar police station rushed to the spot to probe the case. The police have taken the body into custody and sent them to the government hospital for post-mortem. Further investigation into the incident is going on.
