COVID-19: Temporary wall built at Vellore-Andhra border; later demolished

The Tamil Nadu-Andhra Pradesh border, Ponnai and Sinakunda checkpoints have been closed with a temporary compound wall in order to prevent the spread of the deadly virus in the state. This affects the patients who are reaching the state for medical purpose and thus made the administration to demolish the wall within hours of erection.

Vellore (Tamilnadu): The Tamil Nadu-Andhra Pradesh border, Ponnai and Sinakunda checkpoints have been closed with a temporary compound wall in order to prevent the spread of the deadly virus in the state.

Soon after the building of the wall, huge traffic congestion was erupted, leading the administration to demolish the precautionary wall.

Vellore District Collector Shanmuga Sundaram on Saturday has announced that the Ponnala, Sinakunda checkpoints at Patalapalli, Chinakunda, Ponnai, Krishtiyanpet, Sergadu and Paradarami, which are located on the Tamil Nadu-Andhra Pradesh border, will be closed as a preventive measure for coronavirus in Vellore.

Subsequently, a 3-foot-tall temporary wall was erected on Sunday. Due to the closure of checkpoints, vehicles reaching from Andhra Pradesh via Ponnai are being urged to go through Krishtiyanpet checkpoint and Paratharami checkpoint.

This affects the patients who are reaching the state for medical purpose and thus leads the administration to demolish the wall within hours of erection.

According to the Health Ministry, the total number of cases in Tamil Nadu rose to 1,885. The Ministry further claimed that 1,020 patients have been cured til now, while 24 have died of the disease.
