Thoothukudi: The carcass of a female bottlenose dolphin was washed ashore in Pullaveli coastal village in Thoothukudi district of Tamil Nadu on Monday morning.
According to forest department officials, the dolphin died after suffering from an injury.
They also told that the 10-foot-long dolphin was first spotted by fishermen at around 8 am.
Srivaikuntam forest range officer S Vimal Kumar said the mammal was about 3-4 years of age, weighed between 350 to 400 kg, and had a circumference of 1.67 metre.
He ruled out the possibility of the propeller of a boat causing the injury- unlike in several cases.
The carcass was buried after postmortem.
