Chennai: Actress Kushboo Sundar, who joined the BJP after quitting the Congress party on Monday, was greeted by party workers at Chennai airport. Kushboo told reporters that she was merely perceived as an actress despite serving the Congress party for six long years.

The Congress party does not respect women and they are oblivious of the reason why someone quits the party, she said.

"I did not complain about anybody when I left Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, DMK. Similarly, I did not point out anyone when I left the Congress but I will definitely give back to those who defame me," she said.

She returned to Chennai along with the BJP state president L Murugan after meeting BJP national president JP Nadda in New Delhi.

BJP members thronged the airport and party headquarters, Kamalalayam, to welcome her. Her induction into the saffron party rendered the state unit wider reception and spotlight. As the state assembly election is expected to be held between March and April, the party members became resolute with her joining. Violating COVID-19 restrictions, the party members unreasonably rushed to get a glimpse of her.

The former All India Congress Committee, AICC national spokesperson left the Congress party alleging that she has been marginalised for long and felt suppressed. Hours before joining the BJP, Kushboo on Monday wrote a letter to Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, stating her reason to quit the party. She had alleged that sincere and hardworking people like her are not recognized in the party.
