Gurjars call off agitation in Rajasthan

Gurjars who were demanding reservation in jobs and education have decided to call off their agitation after Gurjar leader Kirori Singh Bainsla met Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Wednesday night.

Jaipur (Rajasthan): Following a meeting between Gurjar Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti leader Kirori Singh Bainsla and Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, last night, Gurjar have called off their agitation.

The Gurjar came to an agreement with the government and agreed to call off the agitation.

The leader of the Rajasthan Gurjar Vijay Bainsla said, "We came to an agreement with govt last night, the community agrees with the settlement. We are vacating tracks, reinstalled all clips on the railway track that were taken out."

The protesters also repaired the fishplates, that they had damaged, on a railway track in Bharatpur where they were protesting with their demand for reservation.

He further confirmed that Railway Gangman is checking the tracks and train services will be resumed soon.

The Gurjar community people had blocked the Hindaun-Bayana road and the Delhi-Mumbai rail route.

Agreement was reached the following points:

  • The government decided that 5 lakh rupees each be given to kin of three members of Gurjar community who got injured and later died during Gurjar agitation.
  • Job will also be given to one family member of each of those persons.
  • Orders issued by the Personnel department for providing benefit to 1252 candidates of most backward classes (MBC) category equivalent to regularized salary structure.
  • Gurjar Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti was made aware of the process for holding null and void cases registered till November 11, 2020, against agitating Gurjars.
  • 50 beds have been approved for MBC girls' hostels under Devnarayan Yojana
  • A meeting will be held Sangharsh Samiti every 3 months for monitoring that remaining cases are taken back in an orderly manner.
  • It was also decided that no new cases shall be filed with malicious intent.

The Gurjars have been agitating over their demands from November 1, 2020. The Gurjar Aarakshan Sangarsh Samiti has been demanding that the Gehlot government include the Gurjar reservation in the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution.

The agitators had also asked the state government to fill the backlog of vacancies and give the benefit of five per cent quota to the Most Backward Classes (MBCs) in the pending recruitment process.
