Distressed farmer places locust-filled sack in front of Union Minister

Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat was in for a surprise when he reached a village in Rajasthan to publicise the achievements of the Modi government in its second stint, as a farmer placed a sack filled with locusts in front of him. The villagers narrated their woes to the Union Minister, following which he assured them all possible help.

Jodhpur (Rajasthan): Distressed by the constant locust attacks on the fields in the region, a farmer on Monday placed a sack filled with locusts in front of Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, who was in the village for a BJP campaign.

Shekhawat who is the Union Jal Shakti Minister and the Lok Sabha MP from Jodhpur, was in Nausar village as part of the BJP's 'booth sampark abhiyan', which the party launched to publicise about the achievements of the Modi government as it completed one year in its second term.

While Shekhawat was chatting with the villagers, he was in for a surprise, as a farmer Sahiram Punia, walked in with a sack and placed it in front of the minister.

When Shekhawat asked what was in the sack, the farmer proceeded to open it, but was stopped by villagers. The villagers told the minister that the sack contained locusts, the reason for their woes.

The farmers narrated their woes to Shekhawat, informing him that a swarm of locusts had been wreaking havoc in Nausar since Sunday. The minister then accompanied the farmers to their fields to check the ground situation.

Shekhawat then directed the local tehsildar to prepare a report on the losses caused by the locusts and send it.

Meanwhile, the minister assured all possible help to the farmers, who are undergoing heavy losses due to constant locust attacks over the past one year.
