Two Ludhiana factories on verge of closure due to 'Rail roko movement'

Two factories in Ludhiana are on the verge of shut-down due to the rail roko movement. More than 11,000 containers are stranded which are coming from Ludhiana upsetting the business due to the non-delivery of factory goods.

Ludhiana: Farmers of Punjab are opposing the Farm Bills of the Central Government as a result, the industry in Ludhiana, Punjab faces a dilemma as more than 4,500 containers to be sent to other parts of of the country remain stranded.

While Punjab has more than 7000 containers from other states, these containers are presently stuck at Panipat and other places. According to the Merchants and Ludhiana Custom House Agents Association, if the situation remains the same, the merchant of Ludhiana would be facing a great deal of trouble end and the traders would not even have the money to pay salaries to artisans and laborers.

Ludhiana Custom House Agents Association President Rajesh Verma said that traders in Ludhiana are going through a recession.

"The situation is getting worse"

He said that more than 11000 containers were stranded which were going to go out of Ludhiana and new containers were to come to Ludhiana from other states. He said that some factories in Ludhiana are on the verge of closure.

The warm clothing season has started and merchants sending goods to other states have to be closed, causing huge losses to traders. In Ludhiana, scrap material and raw material comes in large quantities, but the business has ended due to the closure of trains.

Vikram Dhingra businessman said that 5 of his containers are trapped which could not reach Ludhiana, due to which he is suffering a lot. He said that his work is also disturbed due to the non-payment of salary on time. The supply of goods is not being carried forward and there may be more problems in the future. He appealed to the Center that the government should resolve the issues of farmers soon.
