Chandigarh: Navjot Singh Sidhu again took to Twitter, on Sunday, to express his annoyance over the appointment of DGP Iqbal Preet Singh Sahota by the new Punjab government. Sidhu had opposed Sahota's appointment as the State's DGP over his involvement in the Sacrilege Case in an earlier tweet as well.

Taking to Twitter today, Sidhu equated the appointment as rubbing salt on the wounds of the victims of the case. He said that providing justice in the Sacrilege case was the reason Congress came to power in Punjab in 2017 and failing that promise will lead the party to lose face.

Sidhu, in his tweet, also took potshots at former Punjab CM, Captain Amarinder Singh, implying that his failure to fulfil this promise lead to him being removed from the CM post.

"Demand for Justice in Sacrilege cases and for arrest of main culprits behind the drug trade brought our Govt in 2017 & Due to his failure, People removed the last CM. Now, AG / DG appointments rub salt on wounds of victims, they must be replaced or we will have No face !!" Sidhu tweeted.

In a tweet on Thursday, Sidhu had said that Sahota was the head of the special investigation team (SIT) probing the desecration case under the Badal government and "wrongly" indicted two Sikh youths and gave a "clean chit to Badals".

It may also be mentioned here that senior advocate Rajwinder Bains has been appointed by the government as a lawyer in the trial courts to prosecute the cases of desecration of Guru Granth Sahib in Bargari and the ongoing cases in Behibalkal and Kot Kapura court.
