Woman dies, husband, son critical after consuming poison in Odisha

After consuming poison, a 62-year-old woman died and her husband and elder son are battling for their lives in Odisha's Sambalpur. A preliminary probe has found that an argument over a petty issue led the trio to take such decision.

Sambalpur (Odisha): A 62-year-old woman has died while her husband and elder son are battling for their lives after the trio allegedly consumed poison in Odisha's Sambalpur district, police said on Monday.

The incident occurred in Rukidihi village in Katarbaga police station area, an officer said.

A preliminary probe has found that the trio had drunk liquor and eaten lunch together on Saturday but later got indulged in an argument over a petty issue and consumed pesticide, he said.

The matter came to light when the deceased's younger son came to the house later in the day and found the three persons lying on the floor in critical condition, the officer said.

He admitted the trio to the Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), Burla, the officer said.

The woman died while undergoing treatment on Sunday while the condition of her husband and elder son is critical, the officer said.

Inspector-in-charge of Katarbaga police station Ajaya Jena said a case has been registered and further investigation is in progress.
