Gajapati (Odisha): District's Superintendent of Police, Sara Sharma, has created a buzz on social media by lending her voice to spread awareness among people on women safety in the district. The young IPS officer has given her voice for the theme song of ‘SHE’ team.
The song was composed with an aim to boost confidence among women. The song personifies the courage of a woman and assures them that ‘SHE’ team is always there to protect them.
The idea of the ‘SHE’ team was born after many young girls in the district held discussions with Sara and felt the need for this initiative.
The song has not only grabbed the attention of the people but also earned praises from higher officials of her feat.
“The girls told me that they feel unsafe while returning home in the night because of rampant eve-teasing. Despite the presence of police personnel, the girls still felt afraid. Immediately, I decided to start the ‘SHE’ team,” Sharma said.
Under the project, the team will be headed by a lady sub-inspector and seven constables including four women and three men and will patrol the streets across the district.
“While the team will start full-fledged functioning after some days, we unveiled the logo and recorded the theme song as the first step to spread awareness. Men, women, boys and girls, all have to be aware and only then the society will change,” she concluded.
