Koraput (Odisha): At least three women were killed and another critically injured in a landslide when they were collecting white soil in Odisha's Koraput district on Friday.

The deceased have been identified as Ramulama Musuri, her daughter Devi Musuri and Mitula Kota.

According to reports, as many as 11 women from Miriyalipadu village under Ralegada panchayat had gone to Podaguda to collect white soil -- it is applied on the walls and floors of houses.

When they were extracting the soil, a portion of the hill caved in and four of them got trapped. On seeing this, the other women immediately alerted the villagers.

Locals cleared the debris and rescued a woman. She has been admitted to Patangi community health centre.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed grief over the deaths. He conveyed his sympathy to the bereaved family members and announced an ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund.

The state government will also bear the medical expenditure of the injured woman, Patnaik said.
