Malkangiri (Odisha): A doctor working in Odisha’s Maoist-hit Malkangiri district has set an example for others by carrying a pregnant woman from an inaccessible village to the hospital on his shoulders.
According to sources, Dr Radheshyam Jena with the five members team was in the Kaditulagunti village to supervise Pulse Polio programme.
After getting the information that a woman in the village was complaining of serious labour pain, Jena along with his team swung into action and helped the woman deliver a baby safely.
However, after delivering the baby, the woman became sick as her condition worsened. Meanwhile, the doctors' team contacted the ambulance service but the ambulance driver expressed his inability to reach the pick-up point due to non-motorable road.

With no options left, Dr Jena decided to carry the woman on a makeshift stretcher to the Kalimela hospital, nearly 30 km away from the village. The health condition of the woman is stated to be stable, sources said.
