Odisha: 7 bombs recovered by BSF Jawans in Malkangiri

Border Security Force (BSF) jawans and Malkangiri police have recovered seven explosives including tiffin bombs suspected to be hidden by Maoists near an old bridge.A bomb disposal squad reached the spot and defused the IEDs early on Tuesday.

Malkangiri (Odisha): Seven IEDs, suspected to have been planted by cadres of the banned CPI (Maoist) outfit, were defused by security forces in Odisha's Malkangiri district, a BSF statement said on Tuesday.

Acting on a tip-off, Border Security Force (BSF) personnel launched a combing operation in Swabhimaan Anchal along the Odisha-Andhra Pradesh border on Monday evening, it said.

The troops detected the improvised explosive devices planted on a road, the statement said.

A bomb disposal squad reached the spot and defused the IEDs early on Tuesday, the statement said.

Though the state administration is rapidly developing the remote Swabhimaan Anchal, the red rebels are always in action to destabilise it and cause damage to security forces and government projects, it said.

On Friday, Maoist ultras blew up a BSNL mobile tower near the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border at Erabor village in Sukma district.

Subsequently, they blocked the road with stones and affixed posters against the government and security forces. After they dispersed into the forest, CRPF soldiers reached the spot and removed the blockade.

Earlier on Thursday, the Border Security Forces (BSF) seized 21 kilograms of gelatin explosives in Malkangiri's Rajulkunda forest.
