Elephant found dead in Odisha with bullet marks on body

Carcass of an elephant was found in Mundeswar reserve forest under Madhapur forest range in Boudh district of Odisha on Thursday. Bullet marks were also found on the body of the elephant.

Boudh: An elephant was found dead with a bullet injury in Mundeswar reserve forest under Madhapur forest range in Boudh on Thursday, Divisional Forest Officer Jasobanta Sethi said.

According to forest officials, locals saw the carcass and informed the forest department after which it was sent for a post mortem.

"Tusks of the elephant were found intact. Bullet injuries were found on the carcass and it was sent for post mortem," Sethi said.

This incident came after two wild elephants were found dead inside a reserve forest area in Odisha's Keonjhar district on Monday.

The carcasses of the female and male elephants were recovered by forest officials near Gurubeda area from Baitarani reserve forest on Sunday following inputs from locals.

The tusks of the male elephant were missing and efforts are on to ascertain the actual cause of the death of the jumbos, according to forest officials.
