Pune: In a shocking incident, Jain priests were assaulted by a youth at Kavathe village here, on Saturday. The accused, identified as Arjun Hilal, is on the run.
Reportedly, five priests of the Jain community were on their way to perform religious rituals.
It is alleged that a youth arrived at the spot on his two-wheeler and parked it in front of the sages. Following which, they asked the youth to park it somewhere else as it was blocking their way. To this, the youth lost his control and attacked them with iron rods.
The victims Siddhisen Vijayji Maharaj and Bhavyaghosh Vijayji Maharaj have been shifted to a nearby hospital.
"The accused will be arrested soon," said police inspector Narayan Sarangkar.
