Mumbai: Temples and Gurudwaras active in anti-Covid fight

The second wave of Covid-19 gripped the state compelling the government to impose lockdown. The shortage of beds, oxygen and ventilators in hospitals made matters worse. In this gloomy scenario, temples and Gurudwaras have come to the rescue of people.

Mumbai: The second wave of Covid-19 gripped the state compelling the government to impose lockdown. The shortage of beds, oxygen and ventilators in hospitals made matters worse. In this gloomy scenario, temples and Gurudwaras have come to the rescue of people. Some temples have been converted into Covid centres while oxygen langar has started in Gurudwara.

Pawandham temple in Kandivali has been converted into Covid centre with provision for hundred beds and oxygen. A squad of doctors is available round the clock at this centre. This has been of great help as patients are facing problems in finding a hospital bed.

Shri Guru Singh Sabha Gurudwara Samiti in Dadar East has started oxygen langar free of cost. This has been a boon for people who have been running from one place to another seeking oxygen for their Covid positive relatives. They have purchased 80 small and jumbo oxygen cylinders to provide it for free to needy patients. Raghbir Singh Gil, president of Shri Guru Singh Sabha Gurudwara Samiti said more oxygen cylinders have been ordered.

Jain temple in J B Nagar in Andheri East has started a vaccination camp. They have made provision of cold storage for vaccines and arranged a room for doctors to rest. CCTV cameras have been fixed for security. On the CoWIN app, the centre can be found with the name Tarunbharat Jain Mandir. It has tied up with Seven Hills Hospital for vaccination.
