New Delhi: Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and MP Sanjay Raut on Thursday said that he would meet former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik to discuss country's progress and politics. Raut alleged that media was pressurised not to discuss Pulwama and similar issues. The manner in which security personnel were killed in Pulwama should be brought before the public, Raut said.
Malik had recently courted controversy over his comments on Pulwama attack. He had alleged of intelligence failure and the Centre denying aircraft for movement of security personnel. Malik was the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir when CRPF jawans were killed in the terrorist attack in Pulwama on February 14, 2019. The Opposition attacked the BJP-run central government over Malik's allegation while the Centre hit out at him for raising the issue after demitting office. Union Amit Shah had claimed they had nothing to cover up in Pulwama attack incident.
Talking to reporters at his residence in Delhi, Raut said he will meet Malik along with some other leaders during his two-day trip. "Malik's revelation on Pulwama incident is very important in terms of national security. The media representatives were pressurised not to discuss issues like Pulwama. The manner in which our jawans were killed should be brought before the public," he said.
Raut further said that Malik is an experienced leader and an important politician. "It is necessary to understand what he can do to help in the country's future politics. I have been communicating with him for the past several days. Now since both of us are in Delhi, we will definitely meet." Raut said. The meeting assumes importance ahead of the talks of Opposition unity to fight against the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
On the wrestlers protesting at Jantar Mantar demanding action against Wresting Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh for sexual harassment of players, Raut alleged that the central government is always reluctant to act against the oppressors and the corrupt.
