With the dramatic political twist and turns in the state of Maharashtra, National Congress Party's MP Majid Memon has claimed that the government which sworn-in today in the state will only last one week.

Talking exclusively to ETV Bharat, the NCP MP said, "This government will stay only for one week. Shared Pawar has already made it clear that this government will fall as they don't have numbers."

The NCP veteran even questioned the role of Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh in the entire discourse. Terming the entire ceremony as unusual, Memon said that it felt like that a robbery was being committed in the darkness.

Rebuking reports that Ajit Pawar might have the support of nearly 25 to 35 MLAs from his party, the NCP MP said: "Party will first ascertain loyalties of all its elected MLAs."

He reiterated his party supremo's statement that any action against Ajit Pawar will be decided in the party meeting.

Accusing Ajit Pawar of being impulsive, short-tempered and arrogant, Majid Memon claimed that Pawar will repent his decision and will return to the party.

Pro-BJP NCP MLAs flown to Delhi in chartered flight

Stunned by NCP chief Sharad Pawar's nephew Ajit Pawar's move to help the BJP form a government in Maharashtra, the Shiv Sena has brought its 55 MLAs in a hotel in Navi Mumbai to avoid poaching.

According to a Shiv Sena source, 55 out of 56 MLAs have been brought at the Hotel Lalit in Navi Mumbai. All the legislators have been asked to submit their mobile phones and two MLAs are being allotted to a room to keep a close vigil on their movements.

Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray and his son Aaditya Thackeray also reached the hotel to meet their legislators.

Earlier in the day, the Congress took all its 44 MLAs to party-ruled Madhya Pradesh's capital Bhopal to avoid any poaching attempts. Party sources said former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister and senior party leader Digvijaya Singh has been tasked to keep the legislators together.

Maha CM greets party workers in Mumbai

Congress leader Ahmed Patel on Saturday said that the party was "disappointed and sad" at NCP leader Ajit Pawar backing the BJP in government formation in Maharashtra and the development had taken the party by surprise.

"of course we are disappointed. It is very sad. It is very unfortunate," said Patel, who addressed a press conference here along with other party leaders, when asked about the party's reaction to Ajit joining hands with the BJP along with some MLAs.

Answering another query, he said "it was a surprise for us" and it was for the NCP to take appropriate action against Ajit Pawar.

Stating that all MLAs were with the party, Patel said the Congress along with NCP and Shiv Sena will defeat the trust vote when it is brought by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

He said the party will fight the manner in which the government had been formed in Maharashtra "politically and legally."

Union minister Nitin Gadkari said on Saturday that "anything can happen in cricket and politics", and expressed confidence that the new BJP-led government in Maharashtra will pass the floor test.

The BJP's Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday returned as Maharashtra chief minister for a second term, propped up by NCP leader Ajit Pawar, who took oath as deputy chief minister.

Speaking to the media here, the senior BJP leader, asked for his reaction to the dramatic developments, said, "As I had commented earlier, anything can happen in cricket and politics. Now you would have understood the importance of my statement."

"I congratulate Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar. They will prove the majority in the house in the period given by the governor," Gadkari said.

Slamming the new government in Maharashtra as "illegitimate", the Congress on Saturday termed the swearing-in of BJP's Devendra Fadnavis as chief minister a black chapter in India's democracy and alleged that the state governor did not make effort to verify his claims of having support of a majority of MLAs.

Addressing a press conference, Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said the BJP "scared" an "opportunist" Ajit Pawar, the NCP leader who has joined hands with the saffron party, and acted as "contract killer" of democracy. 

Fadnavis had promised to put Ajit Pawar in jail but has made him deputy chief minister now, he said.

According to a Shiv Sena source, 55 out of 56 MLAs have been brought at the Hotel Lalit in Navi Mumbai. All the legislators have been asked to submit their mobile phones and two MLAs are being allotted to a room to keep a close vigil on their movements.

Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray and his son Aaditya Thackeray also reached the hotel to meet their legislators.

Earlier in the day, the Congress took all its 44 MLAs to party-ruled Madhya Pradesh's capital Bhopal to avoid any poaching attempts. Party sources said former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister and senior party leader Digvijaya Singh has been tasked to keep the legislators together.

Party source said keeping the MLAs together is crucial to defeat the BJP in the Assembly floor test in Maharashtra.

Stunned by NCP chief Sharad Pawar's nephew Ajit Pawar's move to help the BJP form a government in Maharashtra, the Shiv Sena has brought its 55 MLAs in a hotel in Navi Mumbai to avoid poaching.

Maha CM greets party workers in Mumbai

Congress leader Ahmed Patel on Saturday said that the party was "disappointed and sad" at NCP leader Ajit Pawar backing the BJP in government formation in Maharashtra and the development had taken the party by surprise.

"of course we are disappointed. It is very sad. It is very unfortunate," said Patel, who addressed a press conference here along with other party leaders, when asked about the party's reaction to Ajit joining hands with the BJP along with some MLAs.

Answering another query, he said "it was a surprise for us" and it was for the NCP to take appropriate action against Ajit Pawar.

Stating that all MLAs were with the party, Patel said the Congress along with NCP and Shiv Sena will defeat the trust vote when it is brought by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

He said the party will fight the manner in which the government had been formed in Maharashtra "politically and legally."

Union minister Nitin Gadkari said on Saturday that "anything can happen in cricket and politics", and expressed confidence that the new BJP-led government in Maharashtra will pass the floor test.

The BJP's Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday returned as Maharashtra chief minister for a second term, propped up by NCP leader Ajit Pawar, who took oath as deputy chief minister.

Speaking to the media here, the senior BJP leader, asked for his reaction to the dramatic developments, said, "As I had commented earlier, anything can happen in cricket and politics. Now you would have understood the importance of my statement."

Slamming the new government in Maharashtra as "illegitimate", the Congress on Saturday termed the swearing-in of BJP's Devendra Fadnavis as chief minister a black chapter in India's democracy and alleged that the state governor did not make effort to verify his claims of having support of a majority of MLAs.

Addressing a press conference, Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said the BJP "scared" an "opportunist" Ajit Pawar, the NCP leader who has joined hands with the saffron party, and acted as "contract killer" of democracy.

Mumbai: In a surprise development, BJP Legislative Party leader Devendra Fadnavis took oath as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra.

Senior NCP leader Ajit Pawar also took oath as the Deputy Chief Minister.

Stressing that the voters of Maharashtra had given a clear mandate to BJP-Sena, Fadnavis said that the state required a stable government, but the Shiv Sena broke off the alliance.

Speaking to reporters after taking oath, Pawar said, "From result day to this day, no party was able to form the government. Maharashtra was facing many problems including farmer issues, so we decided to form a stable government."
