Five of a family die within a fortnight after contracting the COVID-19 virus. The family had come together for a pooja after the death of another family member who died in January.

Pune: In a heart wrenching episode, five members of a single family died due to Corona in the city. Four persons caught the virus when they came together for a pooja following the death of a family member. Within a fortnight all four of them including an elderly lady, two sons and a daughter passed away due to the virus.

The deceased include Alka Jadhav (62), brothers Rohit (38) and Atul Jadhav (40) and their sister Vaishali Gaikwad (43).

Alka Jadhav's husband Shankar Jadhav passed away on January 15. After two months, members from Jadhav and Gaikwad family gathered for a pooja. Following this, one by one they fell ill and tested positive for Coronavirus. Younger brother Rohit was the first to test positive. The others too caught the virus and their condition deteriorated. They were admitted to different hospitals. Vaishali's husband Arun Gaikwad ran from pillar to post to get the best treatment for all of them while the city hospitals and Covid centres are dealing with rising cases.

Death followed one by one

Vaishali Arun Gaikwad (43) died on March 30, 2021 at Shlok hospital in Khed Shivapur followed by Rohit Shankar Jadhav (38) who died at Baner Covid centre on April 3, 2021.

Alka Shankar Jadhav (62) died the very next day on April 4, 2021 at Vinod Memorial Hospital, Vishrantwadi while Atul Shankar Jadhav (40) passed away on April 14, 2021 at Devayani hospital in Kothrud.

Corona cases rise in Pune

The city has been witnessing a huge rise in cases every day. Many housing societies have prevented the entry of people other than residents in the society premises. Pune Municipal Corporation has ordered to make the RT-PCR test mandatory for those entering the housing societies regularly for work or other purposes.

Family devastated

Arun Gaikwad, deceased Vaishali's husband tried his best but could not save the Jadhav family. Atul and Rohit are survived by their respective wives and children who are yet to come to term with the devastating episode.
