Gaurav, the 12-year-old boy, has become the talk of the town after he valiantly fought a leopard which attacked him while he was sowing corn in the fields with his family.

Nashik (Maharashtra): Showing indomitable courage, a 12-year-old boy in Maharashtra's Nashik patiently repulsed an attack by a leopard after he had ventured alone deep inside a maize field.

His courage is now being appreciated by everyone.

The incident took place on the afternoon of November 4 when Gaurav had gone to a maize farm with his family members to help them with farming activities as schools are closed due to lockdown.

As Gaurav was sowing maize in a field with his family, he went inside the fields, the leopard, which was hiding in the field, attacked Gaurav and grabbed his right hand. Gaurav didn't even know for a moment what had happened. But without being frightened, he resisted with his left hand and put it in the ear of the leopard. The injured boy received five stitches on his hand and remains admitted to Nashik District Hospital for treatment.

According to the survey conducted by the forest department, there are more than 200 leopards in the river areas of Darna, Godavari and Kadava in Nashik district. The number of leopards is increasing day by day due to abundant water, easy access to food and mainly sugarcane and maize farms. The forest department also said that ten cages have been set up in populated areas in Nashik district to trap leopards and other wild animals.
