Ujjain horror: Rape victim hails from Satna district in Madhya Pradesh not from Uttar Pradesh

The victim's mother deserted her husband 12 years ago due to a marital dispute. Since then the victim has been staying with her grandparents.

In a horrific incident, a 13-year-old girl child belonging to a tribal community, who was raped in Ujjain and found begging for help from people, has been identified. The victim hails from Satna district in Madhya Pradesh, said police on Thursday.

Satna (Madhya Pradesh): In a horrific incident, a 13-year-old girl belonging to a tribal community, who was raped in Ujjain and found begging for help from people, has been identified. The victim hails from the Satna district in Madhya Pradesh, said the police on Thursday. Earlier, there was information that the girl belonged to Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh.

The minor girl is a resident of Konia village situated just a kilometre away from Jaitwara police station in the Satna district of the state. The girl has been missing since September 24. She had gone to her school to appear for the examination. The victim was staying with her grandparents as her mother had deserted her father 12 years ago. Since then she has been staying with her grandparents. The police said that the victim was mentally challenged.

When the girl did not return home from school her grandfather made a frantic search for her. On September 25, the minor's grandfather lodged a missing complaint with the Jaitwara police station. Satna ASP Shivesh Singh Baghel, said, "In the preliminary investigation, we came to know that a complaint was lodged at Jaitwara police station. In the complaint, it was stated by the police that she was wearing a school uniform and had gone to her school."

"My granddaughter was supposed to return from school at around 4 or 4.30 pm in the evening every day. But, she did not come by that time. My granddaughter's school is situated more than a kilometre from the village. When she did return from school, we made a frantic search for her at our relatives' house and in the village. We also searched for her in the adjoining villages and at Satna railway station. When my granddaughter was not found then I lodged a complaint at Jaitwara police station," said the ASP quoting the FIR report of the complainant.

Furthermore, the ASP said, "An FIR was registered under section 367 of the IPC at Jaitwara police station. After registering the case, the police started circulating advertisements to trace the whereabouts of the missing girl and the SP also announced a reward in this regard. The SHO of the Jaitwara police station then inquired about the colour of the school dress that the victim was wearing, which was confirmed by the family. A police team of senior officers left Satna for Ujjain."
