Bhopal: Supporting the demands by some leaders of the ruling BJP in Madhya Pradesh to change names of places, a lawmaker from Bhopal Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur on Tuesday said such demands are absolutely valid.
Backing former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Uma Bharti's demands for changing the names of Halali Dam and Islam Nagar, she said that these changes must surely take place.
Speaking to media persons here, Thakur said," Islamnagar, Lalghati, Halali Dam and Halalpura Bus Stand in Bhopal were all named during the Muslim rulers. Lalghati was named because the Muslim rulers killed many people and the place became red by their blood. Similarly, Islamnagar was formerly known as Ishwar Nagar. All these places should be renamed after the revolutionary heroes."
"Recently, Uma Bharti has also written a letter demanding the change of name regarding Halali Dam and I am supporting her," she added.
Some leaders of the BJP from Bhopal and Indore have demanded that the existing names of some areas be changed.
Reportedly, MP Assembly Speaker and senior BJP leader Rameshwar Sharma recently demanded that the name of Idgah Hills in Bhopal be changed to "Guru Nanak Tekri".
