'Roti Bank' provides free food to poor and elderly people in Madhya Pradesh

A foundation in Madhya Pradesh's Burhanpur district has come up with with an initiative, 'Roti Bank' to provide free food to old, helpless and needy persons. Through this noble initiative, as many as 200 old-aged helpless people are served tiffins every day.

Burhanpur (Madhya Pradesh): In a country where millions of people go hungry every day, a unique initiative has been started in Madhya Pradesh's Burhanpur district to feed the needy.

After Reserve Bank, 'Chillar' (Change) Bank, 'Bartan' (Utensil) Bank, 'Kapda' (Cloth) Bank, now a ‘Roti’ (Chapati) Bank has emerged in Burhanpur as a support for the helpless, as it delivers free food to old, helpless and needy persons.

The 'Roti Bank' being operated in the Lalbagh area is the centre of local discourse these days. It has been founded on the behest and effort of the late Vijay Kumar Shinde Foundation. Through this bank, poor, helpless elderly people are supplied with free tiffins.

Through this 'Roti Bank,' as many as 200 old-aged helpless people, regardless of their religion, race, caste, sex or place of birth, are served tiffins every day.

Speaking to ETV Bharat, the director of 'Roti Bank,' Sanjay Singh Shinde said, "Through this bank, we provide food to those elderly persons who are helpless. We have identified as many as 200 such elderly persons and we provide them food free of cost."

He further said that they have a proper team of cooks and helpers who work at the Bank.

This Bank serves specifically to those who are aged above 60 years, are helpless or limited in living their day to day lives.

The Bank aims to help all those elderly persons who are not even able to secure two meals a day. The Foundation, after duly identifying such persons, started the regular tiffin service.

Now, persons from all walks and hues of society have begun to join in and are also helping in the management and daily operation of the Bank. Not only this, but people employed at the bank also get respectable remuneration which helps them in keeping their families healthy and happy.
