Bhopal: Five women were arrested in a honey-trap and blackmailing racket in Indore and Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh.
While the police had identified the accused, they will be in custody till October 14.
The honey-trapping racket was busted after Indore Municipal Corporation superintendent engineer Harbhajan Singh approached police claiming the accused were blackmailing him to the tune of Rs 3 crore over objectionable video clips.
Speaking to ETV Bharat, one of the accused's husband, said he has faith in law and his wife was defintely innocent. He went ahead to say that his wife has been wrongfully accused.
The honey-trapping racket was busted by the Indore police after IMC engineer approached the police with a complaint of being blackmailed by a gang.
As per the provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act, only those government servants (including Ministers) who have granted out-of-turn contracts or funds from the treasury to the sex-blackmail syndicates could be charged under the act.
Participation in illicit sexual activities does not attract sections of the Corruption Act, though action can be taken under Service Conduct rules.
The racket was allegedly operated by a 48-year-old woman who ran an NGO, as a cover to lure a woman into the ring.
