Journalist murdered by goons in Madhya Pradesh

A journalist working for a Hindi daily died after a group of persons allegedly attacked him over an old rivalry in Madhya Pradesh's Niwari district. The police have registered a case and nabbed seven people.

Niwari (MP): In a shocking development, a journalist named Sunil Tiwari was allegedly killed in Madhya Pradesh's Niwari district on Thursday.

According to the police's initial report, the murder has been attributed to a family dispute. The deceased worked as a journalist for a Hindi daily and also owned a motorcycle agency.

As per reports, Tiwari was returning along with his brother on a motorcycle when they were waylaid by a group near Putri Khera village. Sunil died of his injuries at the Jhansi hospital, where he was taken by the family.

The police claimed both the sides had a property dispute and quarrelled over administering a traditional form of treatment for jaundice at a local temple.

Speaking to ETV Bharat, Superintendent of Police Vahni Singh told that a case has been registered regarding the incident.

"We have registered a case and nabbed 7 people so far. We are investigating the matter and more details will be given once the post mortem report comes," She said.

It is to be noted that days before the incident, Tiwari in a video message shared on the social media claimed he had received death threats from a person named Awadesh and others for a year.
