Bhopal: The Congress has demanded the immediate resignation of Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra for his allegations on former Chief Minister Kamal Nath for the increased Naxalite activity in the state.

Responding to the allegation of the Home Minister, the Congress said Mishra is blaming the party for his own failure and hence should immediately tender resignation.

"Since the time Narottam Mishra has become the Home Minister, the law and order situation has gone from bad to worse and is constantly on the downhill. The culprits have no fear, criminals openly commit crimes at the BJP city president's house. They sabotage the house, openly fire bullets," State Congress Media Coordinator Narendra Saluja said.

Taking a jibe at BJP, Narendra Saluja said "first look at the condition of the state, where is the Home Minister? He is in charge of the election to be held in Bengal."

"The Naxalites who have been caught are killed in an encounter. This is the failure of the Home Minister and Chief Minister Shivraj Singh. They are falsely accusing Congress in order to divert attention. The number of Naxalites and Naxalite incidents increased during the 15 years of BJP government. The Home Minister is accountable for these incidents. He should resign immediately taking moral responsibility and should be ashamed for making such allegations," Saluja added.

Commenting on the Naxalite movement in Balaghat, Mishra said that the BJP government ran an anti-Naxal campaign for 15 years. During this time, not a single Naxalite could enter Madhya Pradesh, but when Kamal Nath government came to power it had a lenient stance as a result of which the Naxalites have become active again in Balaghat.

The minister said that earlier when the government of Digvijay Singh was in power, Lakhi Ram Kanvera was killed by Naxalites. After this, when the Shivraj government came to power, BJP controlled the Naxalites.
