16 migrants dead, scores injured in three separate road accidents

Guna (Madhya Pradesh): In three separate road accidents involving migrant workers, at least 16 people were killed and several others injured in the past 24 hours.

At least eight labourers were killed, and 55 others injured, after the truck they were travelling in collided with a bus in Madhya Pradesh's Guna early this morning.

The accident took place between 3 am and 4 am when the victims were on their way to Uttar Pradesh border from Maharashtra, Cantt police station in-charge Madan Mohan Malviya said.

The injured persons were rushed to a nearby district hospital.

Following the accident, the truck driver managed to flee from the spot and is currently absconding. Each migrant labourer was reportedly charged Rs 3,000 to be ferried back home.

Meanwhile, policemen involved in the rescue work were later quarantined in the wake of the COVID-19 scare, another police official said.

6 migrant workers mowed down by speeding bus in Uttar Pradesh

Six migrant workers, who were walking to their homes in Bihar from Punjab, were killed and five others seriously injured when a speeding bus ran over them on the Delhi-Saharanpur Highway in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district. The incident took place on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday.

The bus driver has been arrested, police said.

Locals suspect that the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.

Two of the deceased persons were identified as Bijender, 25, and Harsh, 20. The rest were yet to be identified, police said.

The injured -- Sushil, Nathu Saini, Pawan Saini, Pramod and Ramji Rai --were rushed to hospital, they said.

Two labourers killed, several injured in Bihar road accident

Two labourers were killed and more than a dozen critically injured in a collision of a bus and truck early today morning in Bihar's Samastipur district. The condition of four of the injured have deteriorated since.

Station in-charge of Ujiarpur, Shambhunath Singh said two people died on the spot in the accident on National Highway 28 near Shankar Checkpost in Chandchair.

He said that according to the information received, the bus was going from Muzaffarpur to Katihar with migrant labourers, when it was hit by a truck coming from the opposite direction near Chandchair.

The driver of the truck has been absconding after the incident.
