According to reports, driver of the KL15A-279 Scania bus which took off from Thiruvananthapuram at 4 am was seen using a mobile phone with one hand and controlling the steering wheel with the other.

The driver was said to be engrossed in the phone for over two minutes, while several vehicles passed by along the narrow road. A passenger recorded the event on his mobile phone and later handed over the footage to ETV Bharat.

The incidents show that transport authorities have been reluctant to warn government bus drivers in case of such violations. Using a mobile phone while driving can result in heavy fines, imprisonment and even cancellation of the license.
