Malappuram: Pet animals and birds including a mare, foal, three dogs, a calf, quails and love birds were left stranded and starving for five days as its owner abandoned it and fled from his house. The owner is an accused in several cases and he has reportedly escaped with his family. The incident was reported in Perintalmalmanna, Thazhekkod.

Emergency Rescue Force, a volunteer group based in the area came to its rescue. Taking cognizance of the matter, five members led by Abdul Majeed, and Bibin Paul of the Emergency Rescue Force, reached the house in Thazhekkod, fed the animals, birds and offered drinking water. Following this, with permission from Perintalmanna Police, the animals were taken to Anand's house. He is an animal lover, residing at Edakkara.

As directed by Thazhekkod Panchayath president, other elected panchayat representatives and Chief Veterinary Surgeon Abdul Azeez, live stock Inspector had also reached the place to support Emergency Rescue Force. Besides, Sali Kannan, a social worker and a member of Human Society International had reached to help the rescuers.
