Kannur (Kerala): A 30-year-old man, Salahuddin, who was a party worker of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), was hacked to death by an unidentified gang here on Tuesday.
Vazhappurayil Salahuddin from Kannavam in Kannur was also the seventh accused in the murder case of Shyamaprasad, a member of Akhil Bharathiya Vidhyarthi Parishad (ABVP), a right-wing student outfit, way back in 2018 January.
A group of persons who came on bikes blocked Salahuddin when he was going by car along with his family. The gang hacked him as soon as he got out of the car. He suffered severe injuries on his neck. Though he was taken to Thalassery General Hospital, he succumbed to his injuries.

Shyamaprasad, the ABVP member was killed in 2018 January. Salahuddin was in hiding for more than a year since then. In March 2019, Salahuddin surrendered before the Police.
A large posse of police personnel led by the District Police Chief Yatheesh Chandra has reached Kannavam and the further investigation is on.
