Ernakulam: The Kerala police by engaging themselves into farming, besides working at the police station, have exemplified how they could be socially as well as environmentally responsible beings.
A group of policemen from the Pothanicad police station here have formed a small farm within the police station premises where they are sowing vegetables.
The policemen spend whatever leisure time they get in between their official duties in contributing to something worthy.
Vegetables sown there include peas, ladyfinger, bitter gourd, cucumber, tomatoes, chillies and cabbage.
The officials have produced non-toxic, and organic vegetables with the help of instructions from the Pothanicad Agriculture department (Krishi Bhavan).
Along with the agricultural department, locals also help the police in making the farmland more-and-more productive.
As their united efforts bore fruit, the harvested vegetables were distributed among the public, free of charge.
The Panchayat president Shanti Abraham congratulated the policemen before they were to harvest the produced vegetables.
On this occasion, Vice President of the agricultural department Jerish Thomas, Pothanikkad SI KM Asokan, ASI Aji VK and ASI CP Ashraf, Police Officers Salim, Gireesh, Biju, Naseema and Afzal Koya also participated in the collective harvesting.
