Thrissur: In a tragic incident, three died while four others were injured when an ambulance carrying a patient overturned in Thrissur area of Kerala on Wednesday, police said. An official said that the accident took place at around One O' clock on Wednesday morning in Chowwannur area of Thrissur district. The accident occurred while the ambulance was on way to the hospital in Kunnamkulam with the patient.
An official said that the driver of the vehicle, which was overspeeding, lost control on the vehicle after which it overturned on the roadside. In the road accident, three people including the patient died while four others were injured. The deceased have been identified as patient Femina hailing from Pazhunnana in Thrissur district and two others Abid and Rahmat, both residents of Mattummal, from the Ilayadat Puthanveetil family.

The ambulance was also bady wrecked in the accident. An official said that the patient Femina was suffering from pneumonia and was being taken to the hospital in Kunnamkulam for treatment. Along with the patient, six of her family members, who accompanied her, were also in the ambulance at the time of the incident.
Soon after the incident, local police rushed to the spot to launch a rescue operation. However by the time police reached the spot, patient along with two attendants had died. Police retrieved the bodies and sent them for post-mortem. The injured were shifted to the hospital for treatment. Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
While the accident is being attributed to the rash driving of the ambulance driver, police said that the cause of the accident will be known in the investigation.
