Ernakulam: Two advocates have approached Kerala High Court against the swearing-in ceremony of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and his ministers on May 20 to be held at the Central stadium.
Anil Thomas and George Sebastian have filed an appeal with the High Court Chief Justice S. Manikumar and Justice Devan Ramachandran.
Considering the COVID-19 situation and the strict lockdown in place across the state, the advocates have urged that the swearing-in ceremony be held at Raj Bhavan and not at the Central Stadium. They also urged the court to take it as suo moto case.
About 500 people are expected to attend the swearing-in ceremony - which includes the Governor, the Chief Minister, 21 Ministers, MPs, MLAs, Chief secretaries, party representatives, judges, officials in charge of the Raj Bhavan and Secretariat, constitutional office bearers, representatives of various sections of society and the media.
Chief Minister Vijayan had said in a press conference that 500 was not a big number in a stadium that could seat 50000 people. However, many have appealed to the LDF government to set an example by organizing the event online and expressed their apprehensions that it will turn into a super-spreader event of COVID-19.
