Kerala village serving idlis, the size of dosa

A community of Tamila Nadu is serving huge idlis in the Palakkad district of Kerala. The Ramasseri idli that they are serving has gained them so much popularity that people from far away places in Kerala visit them to get a taste of this delicacy.

Palakkad: A small community in Chittur here is serving people with idli the size of dosa.

Ramasseri idli has become famous among people for its size. People from far away places in Kerala come to this spot for tasting the delicious idlis.

Bhagyalakshmi amma is one of those persons who prepare these idlis.

Her customers believe that idli from no other place can match the taste that she delivers.

Eight families of the Mudaliar community migrated from Tamil Nadu about a century ago. Along with them, they brought the taste of Ramasseri, later delivered to people in by the name of Ramasseri idli.

The community is believed to be weavers before entering the food business. They switched occupation as the weaving industry began to witness a downfall.

Initially, they served idlis to people working in paddy fields. Soon after, they transformed a portion of their house into a shop that served idli.

The unique taste and size of the Ramasseri idli soon gained popularity.

Palakkad: Ramassery idly- the tang of home made Idly with its unique size and taste make renowned a land here in Kerala and people from far around came for the delishious food. In the small village near Chittoor in Palakkad district makes the special idly which looks like dosha in size by eight joint families migrated there. 

Mudaliar community came from Tamil Nadu a century ago had introduced the taste in Ramassery, which later gained the tag of Ramassery Idly. At first, they were weavers, but has turned to idly making when weaving industry began to fade. Though the weaving works grant them nothing, they used to make idlis for people working in paddy fields briefly. Later, a portion of the house was transformed into the idly shop and the taste gradually popularised the village. 

Bhagya Lakshmiyamma, one among the family, prepares the unique white idlies that no other idlies can match in taste.
