Eight families of the Mudaliar community migrated from Tamil Nadu about a century ago. Along with them, they brought the taste of Ramasseri, later delivered to people in by the name of Ramasseri idli.
The community is believed to be weavers before entering the food business. They switched occupation as the weaving industry began to witness a downfall.
Initially, they served idlis to people working in paddy fields. Soon after, they transformed a portion of their house into a shop that served idli.
The unique taste and size of the Ramasseri idli soon gained popularity.
