Kerala teenager powers her way to World Arm Wrestling Championship

A Kerala based teenager girl Ardha Suresh is set to participate in the 41st World Arm Wrestling Championship which will be held in Constanta, Romania between October 26 and November 4, 2019. She has also bagged second position in the National Arm Wrestling competition held in Chhattisgarh earlier this year.

Ernakulam (Kerala): A 14-year-old from Kerala, Ardha Suresh is all set to attempt setting a world record by participating in the 41st world Arm Wrestling Championship which will be held in Constanta, Romania between October 26 and November 4, 2019.

Over 1500 participants from over 50 countries are expected to participate in this competition, which will take place at the Constanta Exhibition Center. The competition is organized by the Romanian Armwrestling Association “Iron Arm”.

A ninth-grade student of Muvattupuzha Nirmala School, Ardha has participated in the sub-junior section of the Left and Right category in the competition.

Ardha, who has won numerous medals for Kerala, won second place in the National Arm Wrestling competition held in Chhattisgarh earlier this year.

Speaking to ETV Bharat, the teenager said that she had to arrange for the finances and requested various organisations and individuals to raise the money.

"It costs around Rs 2 lakh to compete. For this, classmates, teachers and school management paid Rs.50000. The rest of the money was raised with the help of various organisations and individuals," she said.

Ardha's father, Suresh Madhav, was captain of the Indian team and the Asian team in arm wrestling in 2017 and 2018, as well as a trainer in Muvattupuzha private gymnasium.

On the other hand, her mother Reija has bagged a first place in the State Women's arm wrestling in Kolencherry in 2019 and 5th place in the national competition in Chhattisgarh. Reija also offers gymnasium and training exclusively for women at home.

Ardha is trained by both her father and mother at home.
