Kerala: Bengalis celebrate Vijayadashami with great pomp

The Bengalis living in different districts of Kerala celebrated the Vijayadashami festival with great pomp on Tuesday. As part of the celebrations, idols of Goddess Durga were immersed in the Payyambalam sea while people danced to the tunes of daki, a traditional musical instrument of West Bengal.

Kannur (Kerala): The Bengalis residing in Kerala celebrated the festival of Vijayadashami at Kannur's Payyambalam area on Tuesday.

The celebration was held at the Jawahar Library Mini Hall.

As part of the ceremony, huge idols of Goddess Durga, Lakshmi, Saraswati along with that of Lord Ganesha were immersed in the Payyambalam sea.

The program was organised by Bengalis who have settled down in Kerala.

Bengalis in Kannur, Kasaragod and Wayanad districts conducted the procession and pooja at Payyambalam under the name of Sri Sri Sharadiya Durgotsav.

The Ashtami pooja was held as part of the celebrations which began on Thursday.

Daburidas, who came from Bengal, played a musical instrument called 'Daki' and people danced to its tunes.

Kannur: Durga pooja of Bengali's residing in various parts of Kerala had celebrated here at Kannur Payyambalam on Vijayadashami day. The celebration was held at the Jawahar Library Mini Hall, Kannur. As part of the ceremony, idols of the worshiping God's were immersed in Payyambalam sea. The program was organized by people who came to Kerala from Bengal and settled here before many years ago. Bengalis in Kannur, Kasaragod and Wayanad districts have conducted the procession and pooja at Payyambalam under the name of Sri Sri Sharadiya Durgosotsav.



The lamp pooja and Ashtami pooja were held as part of the celebrations which began on Thursday. In addition to the function, huge idols of Goddesses Durga, Ganesha, Lakshmi and Saraswati were also immersed in the Payyambalam Sea.
