Thiruvananthapuram: The ongoing Kerala Assembly session, which was scheduled till January 28, has been cut short to January 22, considering the COVID transmission scenario in the State.
The Opposition’s resolution seeking the removal of Speaker, alleging his office’s involvement in the dollar smuggling case, will be discussed on January 21, a day before the budget session ends.
The decision has been taken at a meeting of the Assembly Advisory board here on Monday. The discussion on this motion would be for 2 hours on Jan 21 afternoon.
Earlier, Opposition legislator M Ummer had submitted a notice seeking the removal of the Speaker. As the notice complies with the rules, it would be taken for discussion, the Speaker had confirmed.
It is for the third time in the history of Kerala Assembly that a resolution to remove the Speaker of the House is being taken for discussion in the Assembly. Earlier, the resolution presented in the House was against the then speakers A C Jose and Vakkom Purushothaman.
