Kozhikode: The prime suspect in the Koodathayi serial murders, Jollyamma Joseph alias Jolly, reportedly confessed to the killing of five family members out of six.
Jolly made the revelations during a video-recorded interrogation after she was taken by police on Friday to various places in Kozhikode district for collecting evidence.
Several reports quoting her alleged confession to the Crime Branch stated that she does not recall poisoning Alphine - the two-year-old daughter of her current husband Shaju - who passed away in 2014.
The investigators are scientifically approaching the case due to the absence of definitive pieces of evidence. The police on October 4 had exhumed the dead bodies for a scientific probe. The police had dug their graves in the cemetery at two churches near here, to take samples for conducting scientific tests.
The case pertains to a series of deaths that took place between 2002 and 2016.
In 2002, a 57-year-old woman -- Annamma -- had collapsed and died after having food. In 2008, her husband Tom Thomas also passed away in a similar manner.
Three years later, their son Roy Thomas, Jolly's husband, died and in 2014, Annamma's brother also breathed his last.
The same year, a two-year-old of the same family died under suspicious circumstances, followed by her mother in 2016. The family saw six deaths from 2002 to 2016.
Roy's wife - Jolly came under the police scanner after a complaint was filed against her by one of her in-laws.
