Trichy: Officials of the Air Intelligence Unit of Customs department at Trichy International Airport, on Wednesday, booked a case of smuggling against two passengers.
The accused passengers have been identified as Azharuddin, a native of Ramanathapuram and Haji Mohamed of Athirampatti.
According to officials, the passengers who arrived from Dubai in an Air India Express flight in the wee hours concealed 2.5 kilograms of foreign-origin gold inside the zip flier of their trousers.
Based on specific information, the accused passengers were questioned upon their arrival and while frisking the Customs officials found the yellow metal.
"We found several small cut pieces of gold weighing 2.5 kilograms of value Rs 1.25 crore in their trousers,” an official said.
The accused duo was booked under relevant Sections of Customs Act, 1963 and a probe is on.
