Gold smuggling case: Customs name Faizal Fareed and Ribinson in the list of accused

The Customs officials listed Faizal Fareed and Ribinson in the list of accused in the Kerala gold smuggling case. Customs has also sought the Court to issue a non-bailable warrant against both the accused. The court is likely to consider this request on Tuesday.

Ernakulam: The Customs officials on Monday listed Faizal Fareed and Ribinson in the list of accused in the case of gold smuggling through the diplomatic baggage channel at the Thiruvananthapuram Airport.

Customs submitted the report listing Faizal Fareed and Ribinson at the Special Court which handles cases on Economic offences.

Customs has also sought the Court to issue a non-bailable warrant against both the accused. The court is likely to consider this request on Tuesday. After fetching a non-bailable warrant, the Customs team is looking at the possibilities of issuance of a red corner notice against the duo, with the help of Interpol.

The Court dismissed the plea to extend the custodial period of Ramees, the fourth accused in the case. The plea sought Ramees’s custody for three more days.

He has been remanded to judicial custody. Ramees was produced before the court on completion of the 5 day custody period. The Customs’ plea seeking the custody of Swapna Suresh, second accused, and Sandeep, the third accused in the case would be considered by the Court on Tuesday.
