Idukki (Kerala) : A father and his relative were arrested for beating his two girl children with iron pipes. The incident took place at Nedumkandam in Idukki district of Kerala. The girls, aged seven and five, were beaten up by their father and relatives one after another continuously. Residents of the area informed the local Asha worker that they were hearing children crying continuously at night.
Following this, the Asha worker informed the primary health centre (PHC) and went to the victims' house under the guise of the health workers to conduct a check-up. Deep cuts and bruises were found on the children's bodies. Over 10 cuts and bruises were found on the body of the five-year-old. There were 14 bruises and cuts on the body of the seven-year-old.
The officials of the health department found the beating and reported the information to the Nedumkandam police. Then the police team reached the spot and took the father and the relative into custody during the preliminary investigation. Then the children were shifted to the hospital in Nedumkandam. The Childline and Police officials have started an investigation into the incident.

Local residents told the officials that the children's cries were being heard continuously from the house for many days. Some of the residents tried to prevent this but to no avail. As the screams of the children continued for a long time, the information has been passed on to the Asha worker in the locality.
