Thiruvananthapuram: The people in Kerala will roam around with the low cost yet durable hawai chappal as 'Freedom walk' chappals are out in the market. After delicious chappatis and low-cost sanitizers, the jail inmates of Poojapura Central prison has manufactured the hawai chappals.
The jail administration initiated the production of chappals as part of upskilling the jail inmates. The chappal marketed in the brand name 'Freedom walk' is priced at the rate of Rs 80 per pair and it will be available in the jail cafeteria. Over Rs 1 crore was spent on the production and development activities.
In the first phase, five people were trained for the production and the jail administration has planned to include more inmates in the subsequent production. During the first day of sales, over 300 pairs of slippers were sold.
